Bpifrance has issued a green bond in line with its climate plan.

This is Bpifrance’s very first green bond. Entirely dedicated to financing or refinancing wind and solar projects in France, this bond is in line with the French public investment bank’s long-term strategy, which places the ecological and energy transitions as a core objective.

Investors supported massively this green bond

Bpifrance has successfully issued its inaugural green bond through its new Green Bond Framework for an amount of €1.25 billion. The 7-year bond will reach its maturity on 25 May 2028. BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, J.P. Morgan and Société Générale are lead managers for this transaction. The Bpifrance Green Bond received massive support from investors, with a final order book of over EUR 4.3 billion of interest (excluding JLMs interest), corresponding to the largest order book ever achieved by the issuer.

« Bpifrance is asserting itself as a climate bank by deploying ever greater financial and human resources to accelerate the development of renewable energies, to train and support entrepreneurs in their energy transition, and to support the emergence of new solutions through technological innovation. We thank the investors in this bond who recognize our action and encourage us to accelerate further », said Arnaud Caudoux, Deputy CEO and executive director of Bpifrance.

This green bond is in line with Bpifrance’s commitment to supporting green actors.

Bpifrance, a historical player in green transition

In line with French government’s recovery plan after the coronavirus, the Banque des Territoires and Bpifrance launched a 2020-2024 joint Climate Plan of nearly €40bn in September 2020. This Plan is based on three cornerstones:

      • Accelerating companies and territories’ transition through financial and support solutions.

      • Supporting the development of renewable energies (RE), and contributing to the growth of international champions.

      • Financing and carrying innovations in green techs, and in sustainable and resilient networks to find technological solutions for the energy and ecological transition.

Bpifrance plans to simultaneously support the green transition projects of companies, while helpingregional government bodies involved in greentech and renewable energy sectors.
