What is your role within Bpifrance?

Newly based in Nairobi to cover East Africa, my role is to promote Bpifrance’s products among the local ecosystem thanks to the creation of a strong network in the area. The main goal is to help to French companies that wish to export in Eastern Africa by creating a direct access to financial solutions and help them get into contact with potential buyers, distributors, and clients.

How do you help and support French companies internationally?

It is all about helping French companies to develop their business in the area by analyzing their international strategy and guiding them on the best financial and expansion solutions we can provide. Also, I organize sector-level missions in the region in order to give French companies better insights into the East African political and economic environments as well as the main opportunities in their sectors.

How do you work with non-French companies in your field?

I meet local importers and public entities to explain that under certain circumstances they can benefit from our products and services to support their potential contracts with French exporters. I promote Bpifrance as the best alternative for the area considering very limited local financing in the region.

What is your role within Bpifrance?

As Deputy Area Manager in West Africa for Bpifrance, my role is to represent all business units of the French Public Investment Bank. My aim is to support French export and to provide valuable insights into the markets and opportunities of Western Africa.

How do you help and support French companies internationally?

I support French companies abroad by promoting the solutions of the financing continuum developed by Bpifrance that is dedicated to the internationalization of French SMEs. This includes, but is not limited to: business development, funding, insurance, guarantees and establishing a presence abroad. We have built a large range of adaptable solutions for SMEs that help develop their strategies and structures.

How do you work with non-French companies in your field?

With a highly competitive environment, French SMEs are losing market shares in the economic growth of “Africa Rising”. As the Export Credit Agency of France, Bpifrance intends to reverse this trend by financing African buyers of French solutions.

With our solutions of export credit, we provide accessible funding to west African companies and governments. Bpifrance wants to reinforce the co-development between France and West African countries and thus participate in the elaboration of a new partnership between Africa and France.

Bpifrance supports French-based companies whenever they have a project to go international, be it through export, investment or partnerships with local players. I also work with other local actors such as public institutions, VCs and private equity funds, local and international innovation agencies, HR specialists, law firms and a variety of consultants. Of course, I also accompany non-French companies that are ready to locate and launch their activities in France, which would entitle them to have access to our financing solutions, including those supporting innovation or export activities.

What is your role at Bpifrance?

My role is to represent and manage Bpifrance’s activities across the different African countries. With two African offices representing Bpifrance (in Ivory Coast and in Kenya) our aim is to be the main point of contact for the local entrepreneurial ecosystem and to relay contacts, deals and leads with our French offices. We manage, through both offices, the inbound leads and contacts from the different African countries locally in Africa and vis versa from France towards these countries, be they public or private entities or institutions. Our main goal is to help our clients achieve the best possible outcome through the solutions we offer at Bpifrance.

How do you support French businesses internationally?

The main activity we have is to promote all of Bpifrance’s products and services to the companies, potential clients, and clients that we meet, or are in contact with, in our area. We then link with our teams in France, based on the action or need of the contact. Afterwards, and perhaps one of the most important roles we have is to give insights on the varied political, legislative, business and economic environments of the African countries, in order for our analysis of the entities development to be as relevant as possible. We also help to promote the opportunities and the potential of the diverse and booming countries in Africa regarding their intense economic growth.

How do you collaborate with non-French businesses in your sector?

One of the unique factors that make Bpifrance what it is, is our role as the French Export Credit Agency. In most African countries, local financing is very limited and difficult to acquire, hence Bpifrance’s role as the French Export Credit Agency helps promote French exports with foreign buyers. Therefore, we are in constant discussions with the different institutions and buyers, be they public or private, in order to give them information about our tools and conditions, and ultimately support the contracts proposed by our French exporters.

What is your role within Bpifrance?

Our role is to promote the different activities (ECA, financing and investment) of Bpifrance in Latin America and the Caribbean. We are the first point of contact and the main contact for the French ecosystem and local players present in the different countries of our region. We facilitate the transfer of information with our partners, provide regional expertise for our clients and source deal flows for our teams in France.

How do you help and support French companies internationally?

Our mission is to support French companies (with an emphasis on small-medium sized enterprises) throughout the stages of their international development through our range of financial solutions. Being physically present in Latin America increases our added value and thus allows us to provide regional and country expertise from a cultural, business and legal perspective. Our job is well done if a French company feels that they have controlled the risk of their international expansion while also minimizing their internal resources.

How do you work with non-French companies in your field?

The main way we can help foreign companies is to provide them with financing when they purchase products from French exporters. In Latin America, interest rates are often very high, especially for small firms, which can be a financial burden and slow the investment process. Through our export finance department, we aim at providing cheaper financing while promoting French exports. We maintain close relations with the different buyers of our field, which allows us to identify their needs and put them in contact with French exporters. At the end of the day, our main role is to push French content.

Your role at Bpifrance?

The Brussels office liaises with European institutions in order to improve direct or indirect State support to French and European businesses. It also supports Bpifrance’s teams with the operational implementation of programmes, projects and European regulations. Finally, it helps Bpifrance to build relations with its partners and counterparts from other countries.

How do you collaborate with Bpifrance’s European counterparts?

To conduct its activities, Bpifrance collaborates with various partners: public banks, innovation agencies, guarantee institutions, public investments funds, etc. This collaboration can take many forms: it can be about sharing best practises and discussing European policies as much as carrying out highly operational projects (dealflows, investments, etc.) jointly.

How do European institutions contribute to the development of French businesses?

European institutions contribute directly and indirectly to the growth of French and European companies. Firstly, they develop programs to provide companies and more particularly SMEs with support with financing and innovation. Secondly, they help them indirectly by creating common rules at European level that can facilitate, for example, international trade, access to financing, administrative procedures, etc. It is therefore essential to be present in Brussels.
